new non bmw 4x4

Post by shadrack » Wed Oct 16, 2013 10:43 pm

so need some pics but was after a 4x4 for winter and liked the look of range rover sports and the other half wanted one and its mainly for her and my 15month old daughter to use in winter so caved in and bought one, just a tdv6 so even though speed isnt epic its a lovely cruiser and very comfortable compared to the other 2 x5s, will have to see how it goes but its got full landrover history, its also hse spec with all the toys.

one other thing bmw really need to drive one, seemless up gear changes (only know by the rev counter) and non of them stupid idiotic downchanges on hills!

The E70 sorted all the gear box issues to be fair though.

And yes - pics required of course.

RR sports are nice cars need some pics what colour did you get ?

Its the only car my brother in law has kept for more than 6 mths in fact he had last one for 3 1/2 years. He has since had 2 or 3 other cars but has gone back to a RR sport but the 3.6 diesel V8 one and has ordered a new one. Only one prob he had was with the air suspension, same as the X5's have.

So it must be a good package, and I only drove the earlier one 2.7 diesel but it was comfortable but I didn't realise how much bigger ut was I've my X5. I keep thinking about one but not sure if i should jump ship as the x5 is also good IMO.
Now: E70 X5 in Blue, 3 Minis Cooper S R53, JCW R56 & Cooper S Roadster R59 :drive:

Prev: Abarth 595C & 500C, E53 X5 4.4i, E88 135i M Sport, Audi TT Mk1 V6, 3 Smarts, 8 Vauxhalls, 4 Fords, 2 Triumphs, 1 Mini & Bikes

HI,

Regret Land Rover products are not for me. If you have one and it serves you well thats great. Personally I find them awful. This is NOT a personal attack on anyone who has a RR. Its just my opinion. The sitting position is dreadfull, its like you are sat on top the bloody thing. My knees are level with the glove box.....................They wallow, they are hugely overpriced, unreliable, poor quality and overcomplicated. The dealer I met was about as friendly as a hungry lion and very arrogant , behaving like he was doing me a favour by letting me look/test a RR . They DONT do what it says on the tin 100% of the time.  JD power survey , Land Rovers consistently in the bottom 10%. Do you se them in the desert ? NO.........do you see them in Africa ? NO........do you see them in the jungle? NO.................the arctic ? NO.......the only places you see them is at the local pony club, point to points and chelsea. All the places where if your vehicle breaks you die they are NOT seen at. Land Cruisers/ Nissans rule  in those areas and for a reason. The UN uses Land Cruisers and they buy 3000 of them every year. What do terrorists/taliban etc etc use ? TOYOTA.
Now of course we don't live in those places. But , and here is my point. Make  a decent reliable 4x4 RR and take ALL the toys/excess crap off it and reduce the price from £80K to £45 K and I will consider it.  I need reliability and durability. You charge ELITE prices for a product that mediocre .Its like having a washing machine with 125 wash programmes when I only need /use 3 .
X5.......well many comparisons have been done ag the RR. Yes the X5 is not as able off road as the RR. It doesn't claim to be. However I do 99.9% of my driving on the road and in that environment its superb and better than any RR. Its more reliable, better quality, cheaper and better to drive.
I know what I would rather drive............X5 all the way.

Regards,

Nat.

But those points aside, you're keeping an open mind right?  ;)

I'll look at RRS when changing my X in a few years, but I dare say the F15 will be more competitively priced and that will be enough for me.

We tried the RR a while back but the ride made Bonnie car sick.  Anything even slightly 'wallowy' upsets her tum (miserable affliction).  She must be on of the few who really likes the X6 ride on 20" RFTs.  Her e46 has the MSport susp which has even less 'give' than the X6 - which probably also explains its habit of breaking springs.

And I take it you weren't going to let your 15-month old drive the car just yet.... :))

They would like them, but also they would prefer to drive away from the scene of the crime and not wait for a tow truck...... :P

well all that aside i didnt get a massive choice in the matter! and to be fair its more luxurious than the e53 and as much as i like the e70 theres just something that i arnt 100% on looks wise, tbh the x5(2nd one le mans ) i had 2 years and thats the longest ive ever kept a car, most last 6 month or now ive taken to running multiple that way i get a new to me one every 6 month but get more use of them.

It needs to be dirt cheap given that he will struggle to see double figures from the mpg!
