Professional Sat Nav

Post by welshsct » Mon Oct 14, 2013 2:21 pm

Hi

I have a Sept 2008, E70 which according to the spec has professional navigation system.

Now i was under the impression with this option you could have that map across the whole screen rather than the current split screen set up.

If correct, can anyone tell me how to do this?  The guidance from my local dealer has drawn a blank.

I've tried selecting in the map itself which only gives me options of 'map orientation' and the like.

I've also tried screen settings but now where can i see anything about 'split screen'

Thanks

Welshy

Not sure if the options changed for the 2010 model year.  Mine is a 2010 and when in split screen mode I push the idrive controller to the right and get offered split screen options, when I click the the controller down the top otion is a check box to turn split screen off (and back on again if not in split screen mode).

Hope this helps,

Have you tried moving the controller to the right to get into the 'Assistance Window', pressed the controller down to select it?  It's the only mention I can see of that sort of thing.  Is there an option in there?  It might have become an option on the later systems which appeared in the car types well before the E70 got it.

The 2008 iDrive is a narrower screen system called the CCC type and in 2010 was replaced with a wider screen with higher resolution, and hard drive system called the CIC - now also replaced.  The CIC has the split screen on/off function with full or part screen maps.

Mine is like this on YouTube:

Earlier versions didn't have the same controller with the buttons around it...

Do you have the turn info, etc appearing in the screen next to the map?

I find that useful tbh.

Yes - I have the turn info, but it's possible to have other stuff as well.
Once it's set up I find I don't change  most of the settings that often, but changing between 'North at the top' and 'direction of travel upwards' is certainly useful depending on whether you're on the way to the destination with some way to go, or if you're close and want to see direction of turns more easily.
One of those 'each to their own way...' things I guess.

This is not possible on the older style Professional Nav systems. You do have a split screen where on one side you can have "Map indicating direction of travel or Map north' and on the other side you can have 'perspective view, arrow view etc' you can also have both split screens showing the same information and different zoom levels but you can't have a full screen map. That only came with the updated ccc modules - the idrive with buttons around and the horizontal menu system...HTH

Thanks 6bmw

I suspected that might be the case.

The option i have with the maps is to show the same perspective from the same zoom level, it doesn't allow that to vary.  Seems a very daft set up....
