Hi
I am looking at buying the MK3 sat nav for my X5 Facelift 54 plate, how do I know if this is compatible?
Thanks

Is this a replacement or install? By 2004 the Mk4 was in use.
If you are installing from scratch then you are looking at a major project as the wiring is not in place. BMW charge 2 days of labour, according to the retrofit guidance, as to put everything in place means pretty much the whole interior has to come out.
You'd be better off buying a Tom Tom instead if that is the case.
If replacing then I'm not sure you can replace a Mk4 with a Mk3, it depends upon all the connectors being the same, but if they are then it's most likely plug & play. Mk3 is CD only, Mk4 is DVD.

Re: 54 reg facelift x5 diesel (Sat Nav)
It's possible to fit a Mark 3 in a 54 car as this is how mine was when I bought it - I believe an unscrupulous previous owner had done the changeover - or maybe a dealer...
As everyone will tell you though the Mark 4 is much better and I changed back from 3 to 4 as soon as I could find one for a sensible price on ebay.
Fitting from scratch will be expensive but there are people other than dealers who can do it for you (there used to be a guy in the Birmingham area - sorry I can't remember the name/details) IIRC he charged around £1500. I dread to think what a dealer would charge now, and I wouldn't have thought either the mark 3 or 4 is still in production though that's just a hunch.
