Post by Pradaman » Wed Nov 24, 2010 10:52 pm

I have a 55 plate 3.0d x5 just heard tonight a continuous ticking noise sounds like it's coming from the underneath of the car at the passengers side any advice?? Also check coolant level warning message comes on the dash but not all the time!

Ticking noise

Post by ITBarbie » Wed Nov 24, 2010 10:55 pm

Hi

Reference the noise don't panic this is perfectly normal it the pre heater that kicks in when the outside temp drops below a certain level. Sounds like a ticking bomb but does turn off when it gets warmer :-)

As for the coolant level this will need checking

the ticking noise also comes with a diesel fume smell which exhausts out by the passenger side front wheel arch
again all normal its not a time bomb waiting to explode
