Passenger heated mirror not working

Post by gareth82 » Wed Nov 24, 2010 2:13 pm

Hi my heated passanger mirror isnt working, I read the code with BMW scanner 1.4.0

The code I got is

open circuit mirror heating or cable, passenge's door

is this likely to be wiring, fuse or heating element inside the mirror/glass

Many thanks

Why not try connecting your working heated glass to passenger side. obviously glass wont fit in housing but you should be able to check function of heating aspect. Be careful with the connectors they can be fragile - especially when cold.

I have replaced 3 of these mirror glasses so far. 2 leaked chromatic fluid & an ebay replacement refused to heat up (luckily trade seller swapped me out a good one though ).

If buying new glass make sure you get correct part as there are a few different ones depending on spec.

.........................I knew that was coming.

You basically angle mirror and push glass to the sky causing it to free from slide in tabs.

I cant recall whether I angled the glass up or down - give me a while to think, fiddle or google ............apologies but dont want you breaking stuff on back of bad advice.

I knew it was out there somewhere............found this workshop diagram on another forum. Guide is for an early L322 Mk 3 Full fat Rangie but E532 shares same mirror bits.

Click for link all credit to RRPhil author of post on the other site

Tip taken from Sanj ;) Be careful not to drop glass if only held by connectors, (maybe use use lengths of masking tape or otherwise be creative).

Happy days all help is much apprecited will try this tomorrow.

I bought the X5 around 4 weeks ago and a big thanks to this forum for helping me sort out all the wee niggles and problems.

Next on list,
turn off cold check via bmw scanner 1.4.0 to stop LED markers and number plate lights flashing every 30 secs - NOT SURE HOW TO DO THIS YET
2 new rear tyres
instrument cluster (pixel fault)
2 faulty injectors
handbrake and I am sure I will come accross more problems.

I got the X5 at a good price and absolute love driving it so dont mind spending a few pound to get her tip top
