4.6iS front tyres

I have enough tread on my front tyres for this not to be an immediate purchase, but I bought the car with the tyres that are on it (no good without them) and have felt the front end 'go' a bit on tight islands, so am considering what is out there for my next set of tyres.

I have never heard of the fronts that are on it at the moment, and I do realise that tyres are VERY important as its that little patch of rubber that keeps us on the road.

They are at the cheaper end of the prices, I will admit to liking the 'look' of the tyre tread, and according to that website the ratings of C & C and a decibel of 73, That is actually not that bad, compared to Mitchelin Diamaris (which everyone seems to mention) they are actually quieter than the Mitchelins.

Lets be clear:
I am not going off road with my BM - so I dont need mud pluggers
I am not a boy racer anymore - so I dont need 'slicks' 
I am not 'well off' - so price IS important (but so is safety)

I know 'winter tyres' would be ideal for the coming months, but I cannot afford two sets of tyres, nor could I store them.

Vainly I do care about how the tread looks,  I know, but I dont want ugly tyres

SO (short story long) What are the BMW Officially approved tyres for an 2003 4.6iS?
Current tyres are 275/40/ZR20 106W XL (think the XL is irrelevant)

Hi and welcome, I have bridgestones on my 20's but they came with the wheels, my brother in law had Khumo on his range rover sport with 22s. I have falkern on our TT and they are ok

If you have a look at camskill and blackcircles for cheaper prices you just have to get them fitted by your local tyre place.

After doing a little research i just bought a set of acceleras for the rear in 20"....£100 each.

Ive had 18" Acceleras in the past on my old E39 540. I found them prettt damn good and when I finally changed them for a set of Yokohamas I didnt really notice a difference.

Michelin Diamaris were the OEM fit for most cars with, I think, Bridgestone appearing towards the end of the model life in 2006.
I had Diamaris on my 4.8iS and didn't particularly like them - they are hard wearing but also give a firm ride and tramline. They are expensive.
I went for Vredestein Sessanta which I find better and have a winter set of Vredestein too on 18s.
Suggest you try Longbridge Tyres for the Vreds and Birmingham Costco for Michelin prices. Used both and competitive.

I actually like Toyo's. I bought a full set for the new 20's. Proxes ST for the rear and A1 sports for the front. Cost me just over £700 for the full set fitted which sisn't too bad.

Diamaris are expensive and for the money there are other manufacturers I'd go with.

+1 for the Vredestein Sessantas and the Vredestein winter setup.  Much better drive than the Diamaris. The Toyo Proxes are highly rated by X5 drivers as well.
