Hi block pave , you can get a cheap 5 gallon drum of chemical they use for washing out milking parlours , dilute & pour on drive with watering can twice a year , stops weeds & moss !

Cheers for the suggestion, although I'm wondering about mixing it 50/50 with Tarmac for the driveway and then block for the parking areas and pathway around the house.

Block paving no issues if foundations done properly and if it sinks you just lift the blocks and pack more sand under it, so very easy to repair.

Weeds can be a problem, regular spraying is the answer.

Make sure the outer bricks/blocks/sets are properly fitted and set as thats what holds the rest in place.

Cheers Nat, yes, a largish driveway, but seemed like a good idea when the digger was around doing the land scraping....should have just taken the shortest route to the road!

Taken from Apple maps and not great quality, but you get the idea.  The photo is a couple of years old, I should really get some fresh ones, especially as I can get my own aerial shots.

Definitely block pave it.

Tarmac is pretty awful stuff, it melts in summer and can leave your shoes with a black deposit which will end up all over the inside of your house.

The drive stuff is never as resilient as highway tarmac and weeds will grow through it eventually, especially around the perimeter. Just look at pavements for an example of penetration of plants.

Block paving does have disadvantages, as weeds can take hold between the pavers, but you can control them easily by dosing with a persistent herbicide once every 6 months or so.

Both drives can sink and settle over time, but with block paving it's easier to remedy than with tarmac.
Blocks can be removed and replaced with no visible disturbance, whereas tarmac cannot.

You can put lights along the perimeter blocks too, and that looks really nice at night.

) ) ), I wish, it is an old farm, so a number of out buildings have already come down, and a couple of the stone ones are straying but need work before I can think of anything else.  Tennis courts will never happen, and a swimming pool will probably be nothing more than a pipe dream for a few years at least.

Unless of course you would like invest some of your wealth in irish property?
