best place for dpf removal/delete + remap

Post by SM8 » Thu May 09, 2013 7:05 pm

Hi guys just signed up and new on here. I recently purchased a BMW X5 3.0d and so far so good but it has the dpf filter issue as i don't drive it a lot on long blasts etc.

I have looked into getting it removed and talked to others who have had it done and its definitely a route i wish to take.

Just wondering if anyone on here has had it done and if so who from and who did the remap which is needed after the dpf is removed. As an ecu mapping is something that must be done correctly as i have experience with many other cars and have seen many cars mess up with a bad map so am wary about getting one for the x5 so want some recommendations.

Preferably somewhere close to London  but can travel within reason.

Will that not be a problem for emissions during the MoT? Welcome to the forum btw.

I know Jason at BW Chiptune has done this before. Have a look on here for some feedback and even call him.

Thank you !

A lot of people i know still pass the mot...and even if it is im sure if you have a good relationship with a tester it will be okay. As a lot of companies don't have to remove the dpf and instead just gut it so it appears as it is still there.

I know Jason has done a few as ive just been reading up, will see where he is based etc and what's involved.

Anyone else have any input or anyone had this done?

Look at his sig - in Hayes, West London (right near the railway station). I'm on good terms with my tester but not so sure about an emissions failure being passed but I don't know enough about the delete (if it's a JUST failed or WELL OVER on the readings). That would help get it passed, if you get what I mean.

Is your X5 an E53 or E70 ?

If you google dpf removal there are a few places around london area and slightly north of londow who do dpf removal with lots of feed back on there sites (though how true these replies are......... O:-))

Regards,

Si.

Unit 8 Alpha industrial estate, clayton road, hayes, middlesex, UB3 1BB

DPF does not need removing if its blocked up
It can be repaired but will need to find the cause of why the Dpf did not Regen in the 1st place then fix it

The only time the Dpf will need removing when tuning for the most amount of power is when the EGT's get to high

I have managed to get 270bhp from a 123d(204bhp) that still had the Dpf
This was using no extra boost than the standard max boost level

If it was me I would use the Ecotune DPF delete kit, I had one on our E91 325d 3L for over two years without a problem and I am just about to get the same kit for our E70 X5 3.0d.
A group buy has just been set up on BMWland.
Regarding the MOT it is fine at the moment but I had an email from VOSA yesterday saying that DPF's are under review at the moment, they went on to say it would probably still pass the MOT visible smoke test and you would get a pass but you are actually breaking the law and making the vehicle illegal for road use as Regulation 61a(3) says a vehicle can not be  modified in such a way that it no longer complies with the air pollutant emissions standards it was designed to meet.

I would advise people if they want to remove there Dpf to gut the Dpf box
This way when they do change the mot test they will require to look for the Dpf box is fitted and the sensors are fitted too

We had a customer that went to Spain with his mate both had the same cars one with Dpf by pass pipe the other we gutted the box
The Spanish police removed the car with the by pass pipe and gave the owner a heavy fine that he could not pay on the spot
The other car we gutted the Dpf box on pasted there visual test as they could see it was still there with the sensors so he drove his car away

But note that this practice has always been illegal, contravening the Road Vehicles (Construction and Use) Regulation 61 A as it no longer meets emission standards applied to it when was built.

If they don't pick it up during the MOT, but you have an incident and it does get picked up on then you may find you have bigger concerns such as driving an illegal vehicle and your insurer walking away.  You also have to declare to any future owner that the DPF has been removed and therefore the vehicle is no longer compliant with the regs to use it on the roads..........so still want to remove it?

As Jason has said above the new DPF check coming to the MOT test in Feb 2014 will be just a visual check to see that the Dpf box and sensors are fitted to the car. I emailed Vosa regarding an updated emissions test for diesels but the standard optical smoke test is staying for the time being so a dpf with the blocks smashed out should still pass :) this was the email I got:-

Dear Mr. Turner

Thank you for your email enquiry dated 21st December 2013, concerning the
above.

Further to our previous correspondence on this matter, we have been advised
that the current smoke check will remain as it is still valid.

I hope this information has assisted you with your enquiry, but if you have
any further questions please do not hesitate to contact us again.

Kind Regards,
Stephen
