A big hello to all

Post by p67em » Sun Sep 01, 2013 8:52 am

Hi all,
I am new to forums, so will add a picture when I get chance to take one and my 11year old steplad gets up and shows me how lol. I have owned a silver 53 plate 3.0 petrol x5 for about 4 months now.  I think the car is great apart from the stereo system. I don't have dsp, but that's my fault I didn't research that part of the car. On the other hand at my age I don't want the bass to be making the windows jump out lol.

I got this car with the view of towing my autograss race car to meetings, I went for the 3.0 as they seem to have less problems than the 4.4(correct me if I am wrong). I would only be towing the trailer during the race season and not to far distances each time. It dosnt currently have a tow bar fitted, but I got the car for the right price. I am looking at a westfalia tow bar from pf jones with the dedicated wiring. My steplad now wants to start racing next year when he is 12, so I would be towing 2 cars with a gross weight of approx. 2ton including the trailer, I presume this wouldn't be a problem as the handbook says 2.7ton and that I wouldn't need the uprated cooling fan in this countrys climate.

That's enough of me boring you people for now, I hope you all have a good day :)

Hello &  :hi:

You shouldn't have any trouble towing two tonnes in the UK.  That will really depend upon how warm it is outside and how much 'hill work' you will be doing with the trailer.

Hi

Speaking as a "regular" tow'er of a caravan in excess of 1.8 ton....
You would be better off to uprate the fan,  but would be very wise as an absolute minimum to add an additional cooler on the gearbox fluid..

Heat buildup will help accellerate issues, and trust me you don't want to go there....

I speak from experience which you may find out from this site....

When they are going well though they are an excellent towcar, and better solo.
Still gives me a smile when i drive it after all the issues i've had.
If things were meant to be easy, then I will soon complicate them....
Please note...
Anything I say is only from my personal experience and knowledge..
I don't assume to know everything, and know there is a lot I don't know..
But then I could be talking bollox.. O:-)
