It's Europe, so deadly serious. Those clowns in Brussels live on a different plant.

So used, unlimited, cars will therefore command a premium......

Low mileage, one owner, X5 40d (no limiter).......yours for just £100k ;)........ Someone is bound to try it.

But then again, if we're all driving electric by then, 70mph will be a thing of the past. :(

They keep firing these things about, never going to happen as Germany will veto it. And what Germany says, that will happen  8)

Agree wth PVR. You'd wipe out huge amounts of revenue currently generated by the car industry.

Also, it wouldn't help reduce road deaths tbh as most motorway accidents involve a hgv of some sort which are already restricted to 60mph.

That pic is the M6 J10 with variable speed limits now in place. So showing a pic where you are restricted to 50 is a bit stupid to use to say you want to restrict cars to 70 lol

dreadfully, there will come a day though - where teh max speed of a car at any given time will be controlled by teh speed limit of the road its on!

hopefully i'd be in a different world by then  O:-)

If you look at the statistics you will find most fatal vehicle collisions happen on 60mph and lower roads.

Motorways by contrast are much safer.

So how would limiting a car to 70 help anything?

I completely agree the knock on affect to the motor industry would be catastrophic.  I'd imagine the tuning companies would all start to offer pluggable tuning boxes or dongles that plug into the management ports on vehicles and override the limiter and can be easy be removed for plod or MOT inspections.

The motor industry has a bleak future; a constant push for weight saving and fuel economy, regulation around emissions, speed limiters and I can see the adoption of these insurance 'black boxes' becoming more popular in the future as well.  God help us!

If they are so intent in saving lives, use the time, money and resources to concentrate on hospital spends, railway safety and such!  Just leave the motorist alone, it's not enough were all paying through the nose for fuel, tax and insurance.

Do you know what I think they should do. They should limit young people to 30mph, say for first 3 years of passing your test. And do the same for people who've had an accident where speed has been the major contributing factor.

IMO a 30mph restriction would create risk of being rear ended. I personally think that there is a place for showing appropriately edited post collision videos with crash scene footage and interviews with those involved  directly and indirectly.....viewing same could be a requirements to getting a licence it could be incorporated at end if theory test.

Speed can kill but usually when used inappropriately and often with an error of judgement or failure to consider consequences.

Arguably there is an additional issue that driving lessons and test fail to give any skill or sense of driving anywhere near a vehicles limits - thus many have little sense when a vehicles limits are approached and have little ability to respond appropriately where able.

Make everyone who has passed their test take an IAM test after 3 years. That's more about keeping traffic flowing, anticipating and keeping up. Gets my vote.

Dont forget there are still those "The test doesn't apply to me" people who assume they can do anything anyway...
If things were meant to be easy, then I will soon complicate them....
Please note...
Anything I say is only from my personal experience and knowledge..
I don't assume to know everything, and know there is a lot I don't know..
But then I could be talking bollox.. O:-)
