i have never seen a e53 with a dpf
they never have them fitted as they were a very high cost option & can cause a lot of problems later on when they clog up
check ur breather & air filter if smoking does not clear after intial bootful :driving:
other than that if its had a tuning box fitted or bad remap
something is a-miss if smoking a lot m8
get it checked out ;)

Looks like I stand corrected. As the 330d and X5 use the same engine etc would have thought it run the same dpf...oh well.

[quote=""x555""]Yep facelift models do have them afaik i remember reading a thread on xoutpost and someone on there was adamant that they were fitted to facelifts.

Sometime ago i also had doubts whether these were fitted but then i read this thread from xoutpost were this guy was
very adamant these were fitted. Page 4 of the link below.

http://www.xoutpost.com/bmw-sav-forums/ ... ncers.html

That said, i was at my local dealers this morning with the 1 series for some warranty work and asked the parts guy if
indeed pf`s were fitted to facelift E53`s , according to him against my vin (build date March 05 )there is NO particulate filter fitted to my car,
however a retrofit kit is available. So i got him to check the part number of item 3 in the realoem link and he added that some E53 X5 3.0d M57N did
leave the factory with pf`s and that the complete exhaust system is different to those that left the factory without the pf ,he mentioned it
possibly being an option at the time. Item 3 in the realoem link is fitted to E60,E61,E65,E66,E53 M57N.

The retrofit kit is different to that of the realoem link.

So it seems not all but some E53 X5 3.0d M57N have these fitted.

Apologies to everyone for the duff info on the previous page  , especially Sanj.

PVR you're a nutter! As you know!

x man - my reputation is saved!

Nice idea if it is a retrofit option! Bet it costs an absolute bomb though! Wonder if it helps reduce the smoke though? :scratchhead:

Oh and absolutely no need for the apology buddy!

My dad asked about that, he had a pre-facelift 3.0d and punitive diesel tax exists in NL (i.e. 30% taxation).

The cost was about 3k Euro to have it retrofitted. Not worth it.
