Depends upon exactly what is wrong.  It could just be a sensor, or it could be more serious and therefore expensive - especially if the compressor is faulty.  Anywhere from a few tens of £ to £1,000.

Not entirely convinced regarding the motives behind the sale.

Hmm, why would you go to soooo much more trouble to get £100 more than a dealer would give as part ex?

Echo the above comments re air suspension- why was it not fixed when having the Insp 2 etc?  My guess is its a pricey air suspension repair and they want rid.
Spec is ok, not the best I have ever seen but it does have the factory towbar which is great.    AS i recall there were no "poverty spec" 4.8is - they all has DSP and a few other things which were options on other models.  The universal remote is handy if you have a motorised garage door etc, but only if thats the case.
As for the "tints" well, I believed that the 4.8came with privacy glass, all those I have ever seen seem to have.  Climate comfort windscreen is nice if working, but does not allow mobile signals etc easily through it, only an issue really if using an aftermarket satnav and if you are not plugging your phone in to the car cradle.

Oh, it may be driveable legally with the air suspension inactive, but its not the best quality drive..........

Plus, check out the tv, it may be analogue in a 2004 model or it may have the digital tuner - its pricey to get the digital version so check first.

As for "not having cheap headrest screens" .......WTF?

This ad seems somewhat disingenuous to me and it looks like a car that has developed a pricey repair and owner wants to get rid quickly.

I offered to buy it at my bid price of £6200 but he wants £6500.
Whats it worth given the unknowns re the suspension?

My head say keep away from it but my heart says go for it.
It has a FBMWSH which is unusual at this age and 4 recent Michelins.
I have an E39 M5 and it would accompany that well.

He is willing to sell for £6500 now which is the same as what BMW apparantly offered.
I dont think he has been offered £6500 as all.
I think I will steer clear unless he agrees to £6200. Maybe I should just forget about it.

My father in law looked at a 04 4.4 last week at a dealers that was 'cheap' and the underneath was covered with oil the engine had a rattle and it had a lag when revved. You get what you pay for! I would give it a miss. Theres a few on autotrader at the mo.

That car looks tidy enough. But... The seller rings some massive alarm bells! If you can afford a brand new BMW (that's seemingly what he's alluding to) then why not spend £200 odd and fix the door handle? Why not get someone the properly diagnose the suspension problem and tell the buyer exactly how much it will cost? Why spend £500 odd on a detail but not the door handle? His story doesn't ring true to me. I reckon more likely it's got problems he can't afford to fix so is selling it before they get worse.
