Anyone got a disklok security device?

I'm looking at getting one of these disklok security devices just as a deterrent.  Although I understand these are best of type, I've read they can mark / damage the steering wheel.  Has anyone on here bought one and got a view on them / other recommendation?

I've got one and it is a pain to put on and take off but it is worth it for piece of mind.

I've been using it for a year and I haven't seen any marks and there isn't really anything to cause a mark as the inside are just smooth round metal with a felt lining in places. The most likely way to damage anything is by dropping it on the centre console or trapping your fingers inside.

There is a bag that you can buy to store it in the boot which stops it sliding around.

I've got a sports steering wheel and the small size disklok fits very well.

Many thanks for the feedback - much appreciated - and the best size to get was one of my questions so good to hear the small one is good for the M steering wheel.  I spoke to the supplier and they suggested possibly using a pillow case if necessary to protect the steering wheel - but sounds like may not be necessary.

Right pita that it's necessary but speaking to the policeman last night, after the attempted break in to my car, he was surprised that they'd tried to force the lock as an item can easily be bought on eBay to open the car (the BMW updates have been rendered useless).  One of these things should hopefully deter.

Definately amateurs - tried to force the lock but couldn't even do that successfully. The main concern is that apparently BMWs are still vulnerable to more skilled thieves using widely available electronic keys that will enable them to drive it off.  BMW haven't solved the problem - the thieves have apparently stayed ahead.  Someone round here recently lost an X5 this way.

I know these steering wheel locks offer only limited protection, but it must be pretty tricky to beat one without looking pretty suspicious with traffic / passers by through the night.  It could make the difference between the car being targeted and them choosing some other poor sod's car.

I suspect BMW will only be able to solve the problem by disabling the OBDII Port for recoding functions unless the car is directly connected to BMW servers which then and only then send an unlock code.

The mapping licence key has now been cracked so only a code held within their own hardware would work and that code would have to be generated for each car and be unique and unreadable even if the ECU etc was cracked with no record held anywhere else.

But then the thieves will just take the whole car anyway.........so all we as Owners can do is make it easier if they went elsewhere.... >:D

I have the same lock as shown in your picture, its well made and I found it easy to fit.
Used it on my M5 mainly as a deterant. It did slightly mark the leather so I started putting a cloth over the wheel first. The action of rotating the lock on the wheel is what marks the leather.

I've now picked up a medium stoplock.  On the M steering wheel plus pillow cover to protect the wheel the small lock gripped the wheel so the car could be steered a little (albeit the bar sticking out would have prevented anything major).  As it's intended to sit loosely on the wheel, and spin harmlessly if turned such that the car can't be steered, I've gone for the medium which works perfectly, and also has better padding in side. Just thought I'd post in case anyone else was looking at getting one.

I've got one of those disklok's on my X5 as i'm aware of the OBD port problem, It used to sightly mark the steering wheel but doesn't anymore.

I have put OBD port disabled stickers on and I made a metal cover which is screwed in place over the OBD port as I can't move the port as i've got BMW warranty.

Really poor security by BMW, having to use a disklok on a premium car is really bad. >:( >:(
