F25 2.0M or 3.0M?
F25 2.0M or 3.0M?
Hoping to trade in my X5 for an F25, I've seen both 2 ltr and 3 ltr with the spec I want and wondered if anybody has had any experience with these cars and could offer some advice? Both are M Sport and 1 year old.
Many thanks in advance.

2-litre likely to feel underpowered. 3-litre is a real flyer...... :drive:

Drive both to see for yourself - what may be underpowered to some may not be so to another. I have actually driven a 2.0d f25 and whilst no rocket ship I wouldn't describe it as lacking when matched to a 8 speed auto. Depends what you want albeit 3.0d obviously has more power. Budget may also be a factor as will specs and condition especially if its a head to head between just 2 actual vehicles.

Re: F25 2.0M or 3.0M?
Not driven these engines in the X3 but have friven both in the 5 series and they are very different engines. I much prefer the drive of the 2.0d its beautifully matched to the auto box and for 95% of driving its perfect, it only gets a bit thrashy above 4k rpm. The 3.0d is powerful but you can tell there is a lot of engine being turned over and you can often feel the gearbox software retarding the torque or that 'strangled' feeling as I call - it just doesnt feel as flexible at normal speeds. where it comes into its own is when you push on and its ultra smooth and refined right up to the red line - it is a powerful unit and goes like a train. They are definately horses for courses and I strongly recommend you drive both and see which you prefer
Re: F25 2.0M or 3.0M?
IMO a BMW should have at least 6cyl to match the overall refinement of the car. I personally hate 4 bangers with a passion
Re: F25 2.0M or 3.0M?
The banger is very refined but it is not a 6!

Me too, I made the foolish mistake of buying my old 520d tourer after my old 4.8iS & it was the biggest mistake I have made car wise, the engine was noisy gutless & unrefined, I loved the car but seriously hated the engine beyond belief.
I wished I had gone with the 6pot as that was excellent in our old 330d & the difference between the two engines is unbelievable the 6pot is smoother & quieter & genuinely has some guts...unlike the hopeless 4pot.
It baffles me how well the bmw 4 pot diesel sells because when you experience one you realise how poor it is or maybe I am just too critical of it but its the worst engine I've experienced by far.

I loved my 520d. Wish I'd kept it as a second car. It was my first BMW though so always a bit special I suppose

I loved mine as a car really comfy & excellent at mile munching & mine being the tourer was really practical too, I suppose it's what you are used to my boss had a 520d at the same time as me & he described his as quick yet I thought mine was dog slow!
My tourer would be heavier than yours so thats probably why it struggled with the extra weight.

Re: F25 2.0M or 3.0M?
My neighbour has an E91 with a 2.0 diesel and auto box.
Let's just say that my 330d E92 sounds a lot more refined & less noisy even at idle, let alone when he drives it.
My main engine choice with the E9x started with 6 cylinders. I refused to have another 4 pot after 6 years with the E46.

Are you talking about petrol or diesel as that makes a big difference tbh.

Is there a 2.0 petrol.
OP hasn't been back since so clearly not that fussed.
X5S probably scared him off.

There is a 2.0 petrol but not 3.0 (well 35i so technically a 3.0).
But as you say he's not been back.
