Never anthropomorphise computers. They hate that.
Re: New X5 M50D
I used to think my old 4.8 was ok on performance with 360 Bhp 369 torque...but my god that is an absolute animal I bet it's a real laugh to drive, some serious numbers.

It's still a diesel!
I'd be looking at the new RRS now if I was in the market.

Re: New X5 M50D
And why do they buy diesels, because they think they are economical ?
Mrs Porsche will do 38mpg on a run and yet still 175 mph and 60 in less than 5 secs.

Agree you certainly can't argue with those figures.

Re: New X5 M50D
But it doesn't weigh 2-tonnes so hardly a fair comparison.
I like diesel because the torque is effortless and it doesn't need revving. There's nothing clever about screaming around a 6,500 rpm when you can do the same at less than 4,000. The X6 lopes along at well above the speed limit but at 2,000 rpm. Nor do I ever need to do 175mph, or out pace anything in 5 secs. It's rare that I drive at 100mph, not because I'd lose my licence but because the other idiots on the road aren't paying close enough attention and our roads simply aren't good enough.
An interesting recent article I read about the new type child seats - yes my reading has changed - said that on the continent they use rear facing seats for up to four years in some countries because the high speed accidents are almost always head on. Here they are almost always rear-enders where a rear facing seat performs less well. Says a lot about UK driving standards!

No car needs to weight 2 tonnes.
That is obscene and unnecessary.

Re: New X5 M50D
Nothing blunts performance more than weight both my old TVR & current M3 offer roughly 420 Bhp but the TVR had 1100kgs to carry & the M3 has around 1600kgs...it's not hard to work out which is the most exciting to drive, the M3 is a barge in reality & you notice it mostly when braking & changing direction.
The lighter the better imo.
