Steering wheel change

Post by Ham6506 » Mon Aug 26, 2013 8:53 am

I've just purchased a 10 year Edition and will be collecting it on Friday.

The one thing I'm not happy with is the steering wheel. I is the Smooth soft Nappa leather which I like but it is not as thick as the steering wheel in the M Sport.

I asked the dealer about getting this replaced but they suggested it would cost well over £1000. This seems a bit high to me.

So how much would it cost to buy and have fitted a new smooth Nappa leather steering wheel that you find in the newest model of M Sport?

I'm not after any new features, just exactly what isq on the current car but the smooth leather thicker version.

Any guidance would be gratefully received.

That looks like it could be an option. Thanks.

I'll give them a call tomorrow to find out whether they can make my steering wheel thicker as well as retrim.

Thanks

I've not been able to contact Royal Steering Wheels by email or phone.

I have sourced a more local upholsterer that can re-trim my steering wheel as I'd like it but they would like the steering wheel to be removed and they will need it for a few days.

You mentioned that the removal and re-fitting is fairly straight forward yet the BMW dealer (Wollaston motors), an independent BMW specialist (Autobarn) and an independent garage have all said it is far from straight forward and have not been keen to help me.

Can you recommend someone in Northampton that could remove and then refit it after it has been re-trimmed (at a reasonable cost).

Strange- on the z4 you remove the airbag and there is one bolt to remove- all wires are colour coded clips so again simple?

Panic over guys,

Jack from Royal Steering Wheels has called me and is sorting out my steering wheel.

Sounded very professional and very reasonably priced.

Sent lots of pictures and gave me lots of options.

Looking forward to having the new wheel fitted.

Thanks for all your help anyway....
