Sounds like a screen issue as the tv and radio modules are separate in the spare wheel well hence the continued sound etc.
The crackling may be due to interference from a bad joint within the screen ribbon cable (usual problem regarding screen issues) feeding back through the system and to the amp.
Just thinking out loud

Sounds potentially like the screen backlight.
It is a CCFL type and would flicker before extinguishing.
Static sound could be the invertor trying to strike up
Apparently these can be changed, but don't think is a normal DIY job though

If things were meant to be easy, then I will soon complicate them....

But then I could be talking bollox.. O:-)

Hi x5dom ,sorry about delay getting back to you , my computer imploded and needed new parts , the obc has worked perfect ever since , cant fix if not broke , thinking back now I had that battery drain problem { a rear door relay } the two might have been connected , it seems a bad battery gets the blame for a lot of faults on an X , anyway good luck with yours .Colin ...
