Trans failsafe

Post by Willbof » Wed Jul 17, 2013 8:06 pm

Hi chaps, as the title suggests I left the car for 6 days and when I jumped in yesterday I got the trans fail safe prog message up and no illuminated gear selection on dash. I switched it off and back on and it went out and I drove off with no problems. Happened again this morn so switched it off n back on, no problem. Went for a long old drive with a couple of stops and no issues all day. Left car for an hour this eve then hopped back in and the message returned and back to same old tricks. Any ideas? Read a few posts about the message but they all seem to be while driving. 2003 4.6is by the way! Would an oil change be a good idea? Doubt it's ever been done.

It can be a sign of low battery voltage, try putting it on trickle charge over night, and if the battery is over 6 years old, that may be the next step, by replacing it
You haven't fitted any non OEM bulbs or HIDS or LED's recently ? As that can throw up that error.
Try the battery first

+1 on the battery...............................

Time to change it. Unless the battery perfect , you get this.

Thanks guys, did the soft reset with throttle and brake pedal and it cleared for 24hrs then back again tonight :( ill have a look at a battery. Any suggestions as to what I can get? Maybe beef it up a bit?? Haven't had a look at it yet so not sure if its original or old. As its in the boot guess it'll be kinda tricky to tell as I assume it'll be pretty clean!

Bosch Silver S5 type 019 format seems to be a popular one - 5 year guarantee included.
