Playing DVD's

I have a 2013 X5 and tried to play a video DVD yesterday with no success.
The car seems to recognise that it's a video DVD as it shows video options on the options button.
However it wont play the dvd, it just sits with a black screen.

Is there something I need to enable in coding etc or should it just work?

Anyone else had this issue?

It should just play, if the dvd screen appears with the controls then its having problems reading the disc, it doesn't like some writable discs

In Park and with the Handbrake on?

It certainly should play it.  I have 'DVD Changer Preparation' but no changer and the dash DVD player works fine, but only if the conditions above are met.

Specialist cars found a fault and need to replace the DVD player.

Two month old car and its never worked...!

Went to pick up my car, Specialist Cars have replaced the DVD player and it still doesn't work.

I checked it in the car park before leaving and good job I did. So far they dealership are scratching their heads about this fault and now BMW Germany seem to be blaming my DVD's?!

Awaiting the next attempt at a resolution.

A bit off the wall this I know, but.....It's not something daft like the wrong 'Region' coded into the car is it?  We're all in Region 2 so the car should be too.

Car is back in again today (for the fifth time) and they appear to have worked out what is wrong!

Its a software bug. The way it manifests itself is like this:

If the radio is muted when switching to media and playing the DVD, it will not play at all.
If the radio is unmuted when switching to media and playing the DVD, it plays normally.

I am yet to collect the car and test this for myself.
