renewal just came through for the policy my x5 was on which I changed to the m3 last month, renewal £1299.......compare the meerkat £549, with the same company >:D >:D[/quote]
Phone the company direct and they will see you've had a quote from meerkat, then they will probably beat the online quote by about a tenner because they won't have to pay commission to meerkat.

That's what happened with LV when I renewed my 5 series insurance last year.

Ask the question and you are a fool for 5 minutes.....don't ask the question and you are a fool for life......

I had my renewal in from Admiral two days ago for £665 or thereabouts. Never had an accident, am 48 years of age, been driving since 17 and have clean driving licence. My wife is on the policy too with similar driving historyand clean licence. I called up and said I was looking around and could they improve. Took £100 off on the spot so did the deal there and then

Now paying £565

QUESTION - The alarm and immobiliser fitted to the X5 (E53, 4.6is 2002) model is it classed as a :-

1) A Factory fitted alarm and immobiliser System?
OR
2) A Thatcham-approved Category 1 alarm and immobiliser System?

as these both come up when selecting the alarm & immobiliser System when getting insurance quotes.

BMW EWS types rings a bell - only because there is an EWS module in these cars.  As to which version I don't know at that age.

EDIT - Realoem refers to an EWS IV Module 4.3 for that car. Try putting your last 7 characters from your VIN into here:  http://www.realoem.com/bmw/select.do  That should give you the right unit.

The alarm comes under Vehicle Electrical System and look under the Control Units group.

Age does have it's benefits £345 Fully Comp with £350 excess, wife and kids as named drivers (mind you the baby is 29) that's with Churchill.
The only 2 pieces of advice I can offer are; (1) Loyalty does not pay these days so shop around a couple of hours on the phone and computer then make your choice. Then ask for discount or reductions based against the best prices/cover information gained, if you don't ask you wont be offered it.
(2) Age quickly!!
4.6is X5 Estoril Blue (current)
4.4 X5 Sport Topaz Blue LPG (now gone squashed by a tree)
Subaru Outback 3.0 Rn Star Silver (current)
AMG 6.3 CLS Obsidian Black (sold)

Money supermarket defaults to that on my 3.0d 54 plate

Having said that Swift are wanting me to renew for 590 as opposed to 580 last year. Best comparison I can get is 502 from one call? or 540 from admiral?

Have emailed swift to price match if they will
