X6 wheels to X5

Can anybody confirm if wheels from an X6 will fit an X5, I know BMW say they can't, but looking at the offsets looks like they should? I looking to put some winter tyres & wheels on the X5.


Currently on the X5 it's got style 214 wheels 20" Fronts are ET 40 275 & Rears are ET 37 315

And the X6 wheels are;

Style 258 wheels 19" Fronts are ET 48 255 & Rears are ET 21 285

From what I have heard and read, there is a small rig which needs to be bored out in order to make the wheels fit. You will probably have to do it by yourself since no dealer nor tiredealer will take responsibility, but all who did this adaptation seem to say it is a no-brainer ...
I can't remember exactly where I found it (it was either on this board or @ xoutpost).

Here's proof they fit and all thats needed are hubcentric rings AFAIK. viewtopic.php?f=8&t=567

I'm guessing that w5pwr has an e70? due to quoting style 214 and posting in the e70 section if so would guess that e71 X6 wheels would be a straight fitment with out hubcentric rings required. Also the off set for the style 258 rear wheel is ET 53 not ET 21. http://www.k-lach.net/style/style_258.htm
