X5 40d M Sport - Picking her up today!!!
Re: X5 40d M Sport - Picking her up today!!!
We considered another FL Q7 too but when I took the 3L TDI for a drive it was too similar to the current one we had. Will be interesting to see the new model that eventually will come out from Audi.

Internet option is probably as useless as the TV option as it can only be used when parked and when the gear lever is in the P position. It uses Edge and not 3g - the reason for this was because the car's internal sim can be used across the EU whereas if they used 3g then I guess BMW would be picking up huge data roaming charges or something. However reading various sources online they will soon provide a firmware update which will enable 3G to be used in the UK - this should make the internet option more useable. My two kids were gasping when they saw the google homepage on the idrive

Glad you're enjoying it! I went on a long drive today and even after 2 years of ownership, I'm still really enjoying getting behind the wheel.
I'd not seen anything about the Firmware update. I hope they do release it as I'm sure it will improve the speed of a lot of the online features.

It may need to be more than firmware as 3G (UMTS) operates in different frequency bands to EDGE GSM. It's up at 2100MHz in the UK. The other systems operate around 900MHz and 1800MHz. Some countries kept it all together but in the UK it's separated and usually needs an additional transmitter.

Hi,
Absolutely delighted for you, looks fab. I bought an SE as I prefer them. Only thing I will disagree is the pan roof, bloody nightmare. They always go wrong , I have personal experience and as I have a beige interior, the inside of my car is light enough. Apart from going wrong and costing a fortune to fix, I found condensation on it at times, and in reality up to 30 mph its ok, any faster than that you have to close it because it reverberates like mad . In the tilt position its ok. Just a personal view from my previous X5 ownership. Also to be honest , in the 3 years I owned the car, I think we opened the roof 3 times. Personally I am a fan of sunroofs, but would much rather just have the option of a normal sunroof. I know for many no pan roof is a deal breaker. Funny enough I ended up buying a new car as I couldn't find one without a sunroof.................
Anyway , enjoy the car, it looks very nice.
Regards,
Nat.

I'm actually inclined to agree on the sunroof comment.
The one on my 535 and my RS now are acoustically a lot better than the X5. For this reason I would agree I probably barely used it on the X5 because it was too noisy whereas now I have it open all the time (oh and to hear the NASCAR V8!)
Oh and yes mine broke too

Re: X5 40d M Sport - Picking her up today!!!
Interesting comments around the sunroof - mines now been open two days on the trot
Agree the full (all the way back) function can only be used when driving around at speeds of upto 15mph but the first slide opening can be used on motorways without any mad amount of turbulence. I've used mine for two motorway trips without an issue.
Theres a slight trick I found too - on the full slide option open the front two windows and the turbulence stops
All in all I'm very glad I got the roof as the black interior is a much better place to be
Im prepared for it to break as it seems to be a common problem but thats what my 2.5 year warranty is for
