Well the time has come that my 05 X5 d sport has to go into the main dealers to have an annual main service (to keep the warranty in place)
But what to BMW do in a main service ?
Are all the filters throughout the engine changed ?
Will they drain and refill the gearbox oil ?
What do you think its likely to cost :'(
Regards,
Si.

Major service due..................
Re: Major service due..................
Morning Si
Due to my X being an 02 I talked to the Dealer in Crawley about service and costs they offered discount but were still expensive for labour. They also kept telling me I had an old car!!!
A friend recommended a BMW Specialist not to far away after talking to them and a couple of other folks who use them I booked the car in. They know there stuff they are polite and diligent and are about half the cost of the Main Dealer, full inspection and service under £500.
PM me if you would like their details

Re: Major service due..................
They never change the gearbox oil on X5's, BMW say they are sealed for life !,
Service depends on mileage, and also if its petrol or diesel.
The diesels have an oil service, then next time an Inspection 1 then back to oil service
Petrols have oil service, inspection 1, then oil service, then inspection 2.
The air filters on the diesel gets changed every 3 rd service. 60,000
Oil filter, air filter if due, oil, pollen filters, fuel filters if due, that's about it

Re: Major service due..................
Is it actually stipulated in your warranty that you HAVE to use main dealer for servicing??
Can't you use another (and reputable) provider??

If things were meant to be easy, then I will soon complicate them....
Please note...
Anything I say is only from my personal experience and knowledge..
I don't assume to know everything, and know there is a lot I don't know..
But then I could be talking bollox.. O:-)

Re: Major service due..................
AFAIK there is no such thing as an "annual main service", it is all variable and mileage related apart from brake fluid which should be changed at 2 yearly intervals. Unless its a BMW warranty which I cannot think would be the case on a 10+ year old car, why would it be main dealer only? I thought that this requirement had been disallowed under EU regulations and that provided OEM parts were used via a VAT registered garage, warranties could not be voided on these terms. My X has just had its first Insp 2 at 60 000 miles, certainly not an "annual main service" . Insp 1 was around 30 000 miles and there were oil services between.
