The car didn't look that badly damaged......very sad though.  RIP.

Snipez999 does this mean the end of your M50D, or are a fleet operator now?

Update: new car now ordered

Post by snipez999 » Sat Jun 22, 2013 11:05 pm

The M50d is going as part ex.
It was a hard choice, but now felt like as good a time as any.
It's a stonkingly good car, and will be missed (I haven't had a car yet which I don't reminisce fondly about from time to time) but I felt I was in danger of getting my 3rd X6 on the trot when changing next year (M petrol) and 535d boy's recent accusations of predictability and yawn factor spurred me on to something completely different LOL.
Though not quite as different as I had originally intended: when going along to look at potential to order a Vantage that was due out in January 2014, but ending up coming away with a DB9 a week down the line!
Scratch that itch then see where I am this time next year I think.  There's always the Panamera or 4.2d Cayenne.  However, deep down I have a *very* soft spot for the Rapide S which was simply stunning to drive, look at and be cosseted by.  Sigh.

Order placed.

White DB9 V12 red calipers black leather. 0 miles.

Pick up next week for golf trip to Wales.

Think it's the right call in the end. More traditional Aston.

Wow, no messing about with you. Congratulations  :beer2:
Slightly surprised you didn't go for the Vantage or Rapide however the DB9 is a lovely car with the V12 engine - ask the garage to fit an exhaust switch so you can have either exhaust valves open throughtout the whole rev range whenever you want
(also get yourself over to the Aston section of P/heads - there are some very friendly owners (some even from your neck of the woods!) and some great meets that are organised.

Exhaust valves? Is that not what pressing the sport button does?

Pulling Fuse 22 out the fuse box of the older Vantage and DB9 cars resulted in the exhaust valves being open all the time (inc start up  ;D ) best and cheapest 'mod' you could ever do to a Aston

Some owners don't like waking the neighbours in the morning so a simple switch can be fitted to choose when the valves stay open instead of pulling fuses. I know for the later cars though the fuses have been changed so don't pull fuse 22!

I would imagine the sport button changes the engine mapping slightly and keeps the exhaust valves open, but only during certain parts of the rev range (to meet noise regs). (a quick post in PH Aston should yield you an answer with I'm sure lots of advice of what else you can do, if the supplying dealer is not playing ball)

It is a beauty. Loving the "I would go for black" earlier in the thread and end up with the opposite  :))
