e53, rubbish door handles

Post by Franknstein » Mon Jun 24, 2013 4:31 pm

Hi all

is it just me or are the door handles on the e53 X5 badly designed?
I find every door handle really difficult or unnatural to open?
If you pull on it, you have to pull what feels like futher than the natural amount - difficult to explain, but its a real effort, sometimes I find myself pulling so hard I slip and fall backwards, and the wifey too complains about it...

Is it just mine? Is there an adjustment I can make?

thanks

I never found mine that clever either & it's even worse in winter when they wont even let you get into the car as the freeze solid & then when you finally get them open you can't shut them...it used to drive me mad.

there is an adjustment, but you will have to strip all down to get to it.

my experience is ( and only on a sampling of one so maybe irrelevant) is that the Bowden cable that transfers the door handle action to the catch either stretches or the mounting points bend and that gives you the feeling of having to over extend the door handle action to open the door.

in my case i simply bent the outer cable mounting points to take up some of the slack and so far its been all good.
