New X5 - Pig or not?

Post by X5_twin » Fri Jun 21, 2013 4:33 pm

Wow, just seen this link to the new X5:  :o

http://www.carscoops.com/2013/05/new-20 ... ed-in.html

What are your thoughts. Personally I think its bl**dy ugly compared to the current e70. The interior looks an improvement in terms of quality, but the exterior looks shocking. Especially when you compare it to the stunning new Range Rover and the new RR Sport you have to admit this new X5 is certainly no looker !!

Have BMW got the styling wrong this time ? Will it sell ? What do you think folks ?

I was hoping the M Sport would look good but it just doesn't look significantly different from the standard one. Very plain looking.  Maybe I'll warm to it when I've seen a few in the flesh, but at the moment i'm pretty sure my next car won't be an X5.

Need to see the range rover sport in the flesh but it seems to be way ahead, especially the interior.

Looks like the rear boot door was bunged on as an afterthought when they forgot to add it in and panicked!

The video on that link was almost as boring as the car itself! Is it me or does the car viewed from the side look more and more like a Q7?
Sorry to say i don't like it and im definitely off to a Range Rover next time, poor show from BMW this time!

I don't like it either. The interior looks better but the exterior is just like a bloated X3. I'm keeping my fingers crossed that the new X4 will be a looker...

Obviously people have different views, no large 4x4  has the looks of a sleek sports car, however the new x5 is OK I don't like the back but I will not have to look at it.

I would not buy the RR sport due to the arrogance and attitude of the dealer. They wanted £1,000 down and you take pot luck on delivery. For a £50 - £60 K car this is not acceptable.

The Porche dealer is over 30miles away and I don't like the outside look, so I am limited. Will I buy the new X5 - yes.

White definitely best of those 2, looks less bloated / slab sided.

The only thing I don't like that much
Is the fogs
When I car maker releases a new model
Why don't they release the best looking one,in a good colour
Brown looks rubbish
Msport space grey would have looked better

it looks good 'on its own'.

but in the context of already having done a great E70, E71, a  new X3 that has most of that body-kit, to me there's no innovation in this design. its an E70 in the new X3 skin.

nothing like the great cars bmw have been coming out, even as of late like the new 5, 6, X6, X4, 3 series GT etc..

maybe its a case of milking the cash cow they already have, before a major redesign in a couple of years..

The only thing I don't like that much Is the fogs

The do look to be too high off the ground to me, and too close to the centre.  IMHO fogs should be lower and more widely spaced - as they are on the X6, and were on the E53 facelift.

Totally agree. The Msport looks the same as the SE, and both look ugly as hell. As you say may look better in the flesh. However the new X3 is a similar design style, and thats a pig too, so not holding my breath re the X5 !!

The RR Sport looks terrific but dynamically only just catching up with the current X5. The interior as you say is beautiful, but will it drive as nicely as the current X5. I doubt it.

Next car an X5? I doubt it too at the moment.

I agree. I just can't believe they signed that design off. Maybe the blind chap from BMW who approved the design could respond below ?!!
