rear sun roof stuck open

Post by lou9890 » Tue Jun 11, 2013 10:09 am

hello all

My rear sunroof appears to be stuck on open. Managed to get the large front section closed but the back wont budge. been told that the Sunroof Cartridge needs replacing, does anyone know anymore about this and if i need this cartridge where i might get one apart from BMW and how mch it should cost me.

Thanks

Lou

It's unfortunately a 'known' issue and the only fix without a replacement is to permanently disable the rear section so it stays in the down position.  There's a couple of people on this forum who have done it.

A new sunroof cartridge was about £1,800 and can only be got from BMW.  Not sure if that price included fitting.

Have a look here http://xdrivers.co.uk/forum/index.php?t ... 26.15  reply #21 for the fix I carried out. It will disable the rear part but leaves the front and blind fully operational. It's simple, free but permanent.

Been there, seen that and even got the T-shirt. Its £2500 from BMW ( well it was 3 years ago ) and no that does NOT include fitting which was some stupid amount of hours from memory ( like 15 ).................

Thats why my new X5 doesn't have a sunroof.................This last bit wont help you at all.

Consider trying a breakers yard for one off a later car and disable the rear section.

Its a shame BMW dont offer just a normal sunroof, only the pan roof.

Regards,

Nat.

It is very easy to do. I used a Dremel after checking, double checking then having another check I was cutting the right bit off. A year on and the front and blind have operated with no issues. The rear part is an irrelevance as far as I'm concerned, or it certainly is at £2500 + fitting
