08/2010 E70 - iPhone 5 Integration & Sat Nav Upgrade

Post by simpic » Sun Jun 09, 2013 12:04 pm

Hello,

We have finally got the new car delivered. Complete with the audio upgrade. Very happy, I'll post some pics of the install from Audio File InCar later.

Couple of questions re the iPhone 5 integration and Sat Nav upgrades.

The car has the USB socket with the Aux In 3.5mm jack in the centre arm rest. When I plug the phone in nothing is recognised on the CIC unit.

Bluetooth works for the telephone functionality but not music. What do I have to do to get the CIC unit to play the music on the phone? Seems a little strange as I have  2010 Mini with the full sat nav and it works straight away in that.

Also the Sat Nav need upgrading to take 7 digit post codes and a more recent set of maps. I know there is a thread on another forum with the USB sticks being sent around from member to member, for the life of me I can not find it again searching, can someone point me in the correct direction?

Pics to come soon, thanks.

Regards,

Simpic

You'll need to enable the Bluetooth music transfer functionality on the phone options.  Mine has phone and audio boxes checked in the 'phone' section under Bluetooth and the iPhone then shows up on the CD/Multimedia list under external devices.

I don't think the Lightning port on the iphone 5 supports iPod out which may be why plugging a USB cable doesn't work.  I have not yet seen a BMW cable that fully supports the ip5.

To get music from your iphone to cic you'll need to enable bluetooth streaming on the CIC menu.

Hello,

I can't seem to get this working for the life of me. For some reason there is no 'Audio' option under the phone in the bluetooth section.

When I check on the BMW site with my VIN there is no update available.

Any thoughts?

What is your actual 'build date'?  It is possible that you don't have a Combox as the car was built before Oct 2010 (for the E71, the Combox - option SA6VC - only started being fitted in Week 40 of 2010).  Mine was one of the first to get it (built 7th Oct) and so you have no Bluetooth audio capability, or a tick box.  Your only choice is a Y cable - and I don't think there is one for the iphone5/5th Gen iPod touch yet.

If you do have option SA6VC on your build list - it went in automatically with pro nav and Bluetooth prep and USB from 2010 - then you have a TCU not a Combox.  European built BMWs and Mini got it much earlier in 2010.

BMW pissed a lot of people off in 2010 for introducing it so late on the E70/71, and then updating the systems again in Feb 2011.

Thank you for the info Richard, it would appear on further investigation I do not have the Combobox or SA6VC option. My build date is 26/08/2010.

Oh well, another mod to carry out :-)

Combobox retofit options appear to be limited in the UK from what I can see. But Bimmer Retofit from Canada offer a PnP kit for a current summer special of 698 CAD's or roughly £400. They also do remote coding to activate it all.

Does anyone know of any other options in the UK to compare against?

Thanks.

I feared that might be the case.... :'(

You could also try contacting these folks:  bimmer-tech, and in particular Patrys.  I think they're based in Poland and have a good rep.  Not come across anyone in the UK who offers it yet though.

He told me he could retrofit the 6NF capability back in 2010 but would not tell me the part numbers I needed for the X6 - although he would supply the kit.  Certainly the group could do the Combox retrofit.  If you want full functionality you'll need the Combox Multimedia version.  I'm not interested in 6NR, but I do want 6NF.

I don't seem to be getting any response from Patrys, a couple of emails and Skype messages sent.

Car is booked in on Friday for a full system update at the local dealers. 1 hour labour charge which I think is reasonable. Then back to Jason for the remap :-) It was in there today for the remap but he has advised that there are loads of modules that need updating.

Quick question to you bluetooth / CIC experts out there...

If I was to go ahead with the Combobox Retrofit which would enable internet and had an old iphone 4 in the  cradle as the internet link, would I still be able to use my and my wife phones connected via bluetooth for calls?

If you get a software update on CIC then you will need activation FSC codes for things like apps which are not cheap, my advice would be don't have the update unless you really need it!
