Thats right Richard MS have gotten into bed with BMW regards to the OS of their media interface in future models.

Good news that you are a step closer on the coding ladder and thats what this forum is all about helping and sharing!

Well I think I've got the VM up and running with the BMW Toolset, albeit with some of the instructions not actually working in the order listed - but I got around it.

The next trick is to find the right 'Daten' files that cover the E71 for MY2011.  Once that little gem is sorted and found them I can make more sense of what the manuals say and can start to interrogate the car.....and try the E46 too.  I don't expect SWMBO will let me within 10 feet of her Mini...... :P  :guns:

Nothing seems to be a 5 minute job though.  Just patching the Virtual PC in XP mode took 2-days!  Anyone thinking of going down that route needs to probably put one weekend aside just for that part - there are over 200 patches that need adding as the XP snapshot is several years old - 2006 I think - and SP3 must be added under an Admin function before the rest of the patching works as MS no longer 'recognise' XP SP2 for updating.  At a guess I would say the VM and patching is over 1.5GB in downloads.

Richard,

Is it possible to create an ISO of that VM image and upload it to usenet?

Regards,

Regards to daten files for your E71 use the ones for the E70 basically they share the same modules.

Richard,I know its a bit late for this now but I would of partitioned the harddrive and installed XP or Windows 7 to that partition and install the NCSExpert to it!

Have you received your cable yet?

Mpower.

Not ordered yet, but the VM of XP runs in it's own VHD and is separate from the main system.  The system takes a snapshot every time the system it's shut down and saves it's 'state'.  I can move it to a completely different drive if I need to.  I've got 1TB to play with and a spare 3TB drive if necessary.  I think the VHD is 25GB at present but can be resized - and there's lots of room.  I can 'capture' various ports to use them as needed - like USB.

Right, off to find the Daten files from 44-47.........

MPower, I'm also in Herts.
Don't fancy doing some coding do you?

I've also got VDCS, an original ross-tech one. Shame I no longer have a VAG car.

I bought my own lead in the end and coded mine to shut and open the boot on the key and from the button inside, also to fold the mirrors on the key. Easy Peasy!

I'd love my mirrors to automatically fold/unfold upon locking/unlocking.  What is the reason BMW won't add this functionality?

If you have the folding mirrors its just a case of coding them to work by remote/CA.

Fantastic, how?  Regardless of how technical I used to be.  I don't fancy tinkering with any laptops and cables near my car - what are my options?

Firstly I would get yourself a cable so you can code your car to your hearts content but as you 've just posted that you are not going to do that where are you,PM if you want?
