Theres been many posts on other forums about the thefts by obd and the ways to secure your car,but as I've posted earlier the security gap on the E70/71 models have been addressed.

Bomber,
Like you I have a mate who also is Bmw  master tech (just a posh term for a mechanic!) who has updated cars that can be reflashed with the latest software to prevent cloning via obd and also the prevention of windows dropping to access the obd port.

Dennys,

If you already have a powered tailgate you should have one button to open in the dash and one at the base of the tailgate.
If you don't have a powered tailgate its a no,but I've seen someone do a retrofit on an x5 but IMO its just isn't work the cost.

With coding you can open/close the tailgate by remote or the button on the dash.

Question for MPower

When I installed INPA there is no E70 on the screen however the files are present in the CFGDAT folder, in that folder there is a INPA.INI file for the settings, if i edit this this gives me E70 but is this the correct method?

Bomber,

Yea thats the right method from memory and you can assign which button for E70 as you wish.

Ok, coded the mirrors and and DVD in motion, working on the 6NR & 6NF now just having trouble with my build date in the VO/FA

just a note for anyone thinking of doing any coding, you will need to be very competent with a computer and have alot of time to read up, NCS is not the easiest to install as theres lots of files that you need to find elsewhere, then theres the daten files which if you like me and wanted the latest which took 4 days to download!!! there's is a small risk of buggering your car :)

Bomber,

What year of build is your X,very interested in your retrofit of 6NR as I've omitted that option out when at the dealers.

I'm surprised only 2 features that you've coded I did all mine on the same day! ;)

Too be truthful anyone can code their cars but with a bit of common sense, the secret is if you're not 100% sure don't do it as you might corrupt the module that you're trying code.

Best read, read and read some more so you have a good understanding what you're doing is the key IMO!

Defo watching this with interest having finally got 'XP Mode' running on a Win7/64 machine and learning how to install everything into a VM.  Now with the excellent advice from some folks on here it's just a case of installing everything in the right order, buy a cable and away we go........ :).........after reading War & Peace in the manuals :'(

FYI - for those going towards Windows 8, there is no XP virtual mode available, either with the top versions or to buy.  MS have discontinued it on Win8 and all XP support vanishes next spring.  Methinks BMW will have a new OS based version in development.  There's certainly a tie up between MS and BMW for upcoming models.
