Chuffed with the angel rings fitted

Post by dpbayly » Thu Jun 06, 2013 10:08 pm

After tinting my headlights and deciding I would stick with them as I love the way they look I then decided I would fit a set of CCFL rings in my light units I would have loved to get hold of a set of the SMD led rings but I couldn't find a UK supplier so stuck with the CCFL's.

They arrived yesterday but unfortunately after a quick bench test I found one of the smaller rings was not working so gave the chap a call and arranged for a replacement and while I was at it as they were only £22 I ordered a second full set just so I had spares in case I ever need anything.

Well the other ring didn't turn up today and I couldn't wait to start fitting them up so decided to do the one, fingers crossed the replacement will come tomorrow....

Split the lights with a little mini hot air gun I was surprised how easy they are to split, once split I went ahead and fitted the rings and while I was at it I gave the lenses a good clean:

Here they are back together through the tinted lens:

Switched on:

Fitted back to the car not on you can just make out the rings:

Side lights switched on:

Cant wait to get the other one sorted.....

Thanks,

Not at all from what I've read if your car is a pre mid 2002 then the lights are bonded with this stuff that becomes very easy to heat and work with but if your car is post mid 2002 then the lights are stuck together with a more permanent bonding agent.

As mine is a 2001 they came apart very easily and I was only using a little hobby hot air gun I should think it would be even easier with a proper hot air gun, the one light took around 40 mins to strip, fit the rings and reassemble.

These are the rings I bought:

I have those in my watched items but because it wasn't a UK supplier I went with the ccfl, If you do get the SMD ones let me know how you get on with them as I might get a set if there any good and just strip them down again as its so easy to do.

Well over the weekend I will wire the CCFL rings to come on when unlocking the car and I might also wire them to be on all the time the ignition is on like DRL's

Looking good.  Loving the tints on them too.

Do the rings take long to warm up?
I had them on the E46 and they took about 30 secs to get to full brightness, damn good when lit though.

Thanks,

They take around the same to reach full brightness about 30 secs, when I first turned them on I was a little disappointed before realising they warm up to a much brighter look.

I fitted the tint film the other day, only fitted it because I couldn't source the Depo angel lights I wanted (no stock) so decided to make best with what I had and I really needed to get rid of the nasty orange so went with the tint film and happy I did im now keeping the lights especially now I have the angel rings fitted

A really great mod, and much cheaper than the depo's too. Nice one
