Brake pads and discs

I am changing front and rear pads and discs on my 2002 4.4.

I also tow a Coachman Pastiche 460/2 caravan, which is quite heavy.

So I need to know whether it is worth investing in a set Rossini discs and pads (they are grooved)

Or stick to solid and yellow stuff pads.

There was a good write up on the honda forum which basically said do not waste your money on drilled ,

grooved discs, keep to solids.

If it is solids what is best, Brembo, Textar, Pagid.

Any help appreciated, I can do the leg work re prices, it is the know how i need.

Don't waste your money, your caravan has its own brakes that will be more than able to take the weight of the caravan.

So just fit new solids (had an advisory on its last service re discs getting near it ), and obviously pads as well.

Just fitted Pagid front discs & pads on my 3.0D £119 all in from Eurocarparts. Piece of cake to fit. Yours will probably be a little more expensive though. Pagid came recommended from this forum & from Eurocarparts aswell.

Is there a guide somewhere, as I can't seem to find one in the how to section.

If you're swapping the discs too the rears are a little more faffy as the bolts holding the rear half of the caliper are hidden by the shocks. Tis easier to remove the whole carrier. The handbrake shoes need sometimes to be backed off to get the disc off and re-adjusted when the new rear disc is on. That's done with a screwdriver through awheel bolt holder, possibly the trickiest part as you can't see properly what you're doing

Pads alone are a piece of cake, you just need an allen drive to withdraw the guide pins.

Are you sure about that price from ECP for the fronts ?
bcos Website is showing front pads & disc for  £46.2 +  (£64.8 * 2)    = £175.8

Also is there much difference between the pagids & OEM ?

Seems prices have gone up....however 25% promo code mgrorg25 will knock that down to £131.85

service25 does the same too

ECP seems to be going down the MFI route sadly

I fitted Pagid discs and pads to my 540 (God rest it's ECU) and after about 3000 miles they started screeching like you wouldn't believe, no matter what i tried, anti squeal shims, copper coat, the fancy brake pad lubricant that eurocarparts recommend but nothing would stop them screeching. In the end i lost the plot and bought Bosch ones and they were the dogs danglers. No noise from them at all and they actually felt like they offered better braking than genuine BMW discs and pads.

^^^^^ my Pagid squeal like a mofo. Quite frankly it's embarrassing, in a dilemma whether to change as they've only got around 4k miles on them.

I've got EBC grooved on mine with Yellow Stuff and they're very good , but quite expensive .

For 'standard' discs , I would say Zimmermann are well worth a look , good reputation and
reasonably priced too .

I'm doing all mine soon and having has lots of experience with other BMWs, I have pretty much always regretted buying stuff from ECP. It either doesn't quite fit or breaks after a few months. You can't knock their prices, but you have to buy wisely.

I changed my 540 discs and ECP were actually supplying the same discs as the OEM to BMW, but it took ages to fathom the correct ECP number.

Both my M5 and 4.8IS were upgraded with ferrodo DS 2500 pads.  I canot speak highly enough about them . Superb pads .

Thats what i would go with.
