Interior Trim - Wrap or Colour change
Interior Trim - Wrap or Colour change
I've seen a 40d M Sport which I think I may crack a deal on later today. Only thing is that it has a black interior with dark bamboo trim (comfort seats) which makes the interior look a tad dark - has anyone managed to change their interior trim - what were the costs involved with this?
I'm not sure wrapping would provide the required effect?

Re: Interior Trim - Wrap or Colour change
Very timely - I just did a deal on a 40D. We wanted piano black but the car had aluminium. £1,750 (slightly discounted) to change the trim for piano black, excluding fitting (they were going to fit for nothing as we had bought the car)! We declined and have stuck with the aluminium for now.
Have read about people wrapping interior trim but don't know how it will look. I think the darker trims look good with lighter leather.

Jeez, I expected something stupid like £1k but £1750
Yes, the dark trims look great with the light leather but unfortunately this one has black leather with the bamboo trim but it has everything else we require within our budget. I think we may just have to live with it
Id prefer the Aluminium Trim with Black so if you want to swap yours for the Dark Bamboo let me know

Re: Interior Trim - Wrap or Colour change
The aluminium is not very robust- it is very thin and any knock with rings/watches etc marks/ dents/ dings it very easily. If you have a look at some other used cars with the Al trim you will see what I mean.
The centre console parts on later cars are actually silver plastic.
I'd stick with the wood

Re: Interior Trim - Wrap or Colour change
I'm planning on having mine dipped, I had a quote for all the Aluminium which was £300, you can have any type of finish and its very robust once lacquered, just not got round to it yet.

+1 yep have to watch what you have in your hands , previous owner put a few dinks in the al trim , does look nice but hard to keep it that way

When we do your surrounds, we'll get the interior done to the colour of your choice as well.
Pick a colour.
Raj helped me get mine done, if you want to see what they might look like.

Re: Interior Trim - Wrap or Colour change
I heard that piano black is a nightmare in terms of dust and scratches so hoping aluminium isn't. Maybe they all are.
Couldn't bring myself to part with £1,750 (more with fitting if done after sale apparently) but thought I might treat myself to it in a year or so to change the interior when it gets marked (if it gets marked).

Aluminium is easy to keep clean , I'd say piano black would be level OCD in keeping clean /smear and dust free

Re: Interior Trim - Wrap or Colour change
It's true about the alu trim denting easily. We had it on a previous car (E91) and the previous owner had obviously let the seatbelt swing back a few times, as there were dents in the door trim.
Our X5 has walnut wood (iirc) which looks great. Only annoying thing is I've just spotted a small crack in the plastic surround (near the gear lever) which seems to have happened since the hot weather. Really annoying. Anyone had this happen?

Re: Interior Trim - Wrap or Colour change
I had aluminium trim on a 335d and it was fine, I think any trims will be susceptible to seatbelts hitting them, rings etc.
Re: Interior Trim - Wrap or Colour change
I have Aluminium in mine which had quite afew marks on it so had it wrapped in Carbon Black wrap which has been on for over two years and still looks great. Interested in the 'dipping' that has been mentioned as the wrap cost £350, may be cheaper now though.
