Typical X5 insurance?

Had already been to confused.com and found Admiral the best/cheapest combination quote so my wife spoke to them, very pragmatic - they don't need a tracker fitted and accept that most X5s won't be driving round with cloth seats and no nav or other options so they just accept whatever you have, no need to list them !
£650 too. Our S-Max was £300 odd quid so not too bad an increase.

Bit of a result with Admiral. Our current insurer (Churchill) wanted something like £900, and went through every option in painful detail - took my wife about 40 mins on the phone. THey also wanted a tracker fitted and proof of it before they would cover the car for theft.

Good stuff. I am with Admiral too. I had to list the options over the phone, but they are described as "interior modifications" on the schedule. I've spoken to them twice about this and each time they confirm that they're noted on the policy, despite the ambiguous reference. Just arranged for a towball to be fitted....reminds me to notify them of this too.

And we have our own 'Pope' to bless the Union too.......

OP - we found Admiral were OK until changes were made. We took one car off the road and they refused to insure (even though it was securely garaged they said it had to be on the road and in use!!) it and whacked the policy costs up so we've split the cars up again and saved a good deal of money.

Oddly our schedule says no modifications even though my wife started discussing them with them, two people there, they even checked with their manager. Paranoia means I've asked my wife to call back today to check this....they don't make it easy do they.

So not quite as good as previously reported, but the end result still pretty good in terms of premium and cover!

Insurance varies so much depending on the car, I had quotes of as much as £1500 for the X5, all insurance companies seem to favour certain cars and heavily load others so it's really worth phoning around.

Absolutely right. Just did some comparing online and managed to get it down from the first quote of £1145 to around £640, for very similar insurance specs and excesses. Although the variance is mind boggling. No idea how they pluck these numbers out of the air, you'd think there would be some consistency.

Bet £640 is Admiral? That is what my quote was for a 40d.

Sorry haven't been on the forum for a while so hadn't seen these messages earlier.
I did enquire with Admiral but they wanted over £900 if I remember correctly. I ended up with eChoice which I used for my 325Ci previously. To be honest I've not had to claim before so not sure how good they are at paying out, but they sure were the cheapest that I could find at the time. Didn't ask any questions about the X5 as I assumed that everything on the car was factory fitted and therefore considered standard.
Would be keen to hear from anyone who has had any experience with eChoice. They are part of RSA so I felt happy they weren't a small cowboy outfit.
