i have a 2005 x5 sport 3.0d and it had a weeping joint in the water hose that runs from the motor to the heater thingo,
the hose is two pieces with some sort of fitting in the middle, so i ring up my local dealer and he informs me
he can get one overnight $148.00 wow, so after asking here i order from a UK parts shop, 22 pounds or 33AUD
plus postage , so landed its a third of the price, i dont mind a dealer having a mark up but 200% seem wrong

You should try getting Holden parts in the UK. Ridiculously expensive. But shipping costs from Oz to UK are crazy so it's not much better to source parts in Oz and have them shipped.

got the part, and went to fit it and discovered that the hose clamp on the engine side of the pipe could have been tighter,
went ahead and changed the pipe anyway and discovered that the leak was in fact the hose clamp and there was absolutely nothing wrong with the connecting piece
this pipe running from the engine to the webasto heater ( diesel) is two pieces with a connector in the middle, on one side of the join is one of those crimped clamps and the other a hose clamp.
on mine it appeared as if the joiner was some sort of metal and was corroding, however this was far from the case, when pulled apart it is some sort of plastic and was solid, all i really needed to do was tighten the clamp.
so thanks mister expert mechanic i,ll just suck up the $51.00 you just cost me

Good work on sorting it yourself. I think because its your own car you take more time to diagnose the problem rather than a mechanic who's always looking for the quick fix or assuming your car has the same problem as others.
BTW if you are near the northern beaches I use a mechanic based in manly vale who is very good.

So many people go overseas for parts when right in our backyard, we have a source, 3 times cheaper than BMW.
Talk to Cliff at Parts Agents Australia (he is in QLD). He has OEM parts 1/3 price of BMW.
