Hello fellows,
After app 2 months ownership of a X5 30D 2012, I yesterday experienced a problem.
As living in Switzerland where speed limit is 120km/h, I have not noticed the problem before yesterday driving abroad and exceeding the speed.
When passing around 140 (and higher) a sudden high "wind" noise appeared from the passenger side (right side of car) - it sounded really weird, like a plastic bag fluttering in the wind - very loud. As soon as reducing the speed below 130 it disappears and when increasing it comes again :'(
The noise sounds like it comes from the outside of the car - I have checked and nothing looks like it is loose.
This is really annoying...... >:D >:D
Is there anybody in this forum having experienced the same?
BTW, the advise given in another tread about rattling tail gate, have completely cured mine - thanks for this
Cheers

Thanks Bmwx5 montenegro,
I have checked with BMW, and acc to their log mine have not got a new windscreen replacement.
The sound actually also sound like it is coming from the middle of the cars right side - very annoying
Cheers

Windscreen replacements are not recorded though if not done by BMW?
Other parts to check are the door rubber and just to make sure - there is no cross bar on the roof, right?

Also check the inner water seal/barrier behind the door card as it might have come loose and if enough airflow is getting into the door it will flap the plastic perhaps?
Does it disappear if you say tilt the sunroof, or open a wind just a fraction - either will change the air pressure in the car and the direction of air flow.
The only other thing I can think of is whether one of the underside shields is working loose and flapping.

Never anthropomorphise computers. They hate that.
Re: Weird "wind" noise with speed excess 140km/h
That last one is a good point - after a brake service on my E53, one of the screws was missing of that plastic stuff around there and I could move it freely by hand.
Never noticed the noise though, guess the family screaming drowned any rattle out >:D

Car is bought through BMW, only 12 mth old with very few km - doubt it have been changed as they state no, but can for sure not be 100% - anyway I can check this?
But actually the sound is not coming from the front - more from mid-car in the right side.
About the roof bars, no.
But have a funny episode of my neighbor who got an X6 - at 80km a strange noise, went to BMW and a tech guy drove the car and could also hear it. Agreed a day to bring in the car - the first thing the new tech guy saw......was a roof mounted ski rack

Will check this - could be something like this, need to have the misses driving the car at this speed with me sitting next to her and trying to see if I can hear more specific where it comes from, biggest challenge here is to convince her speedding
Have tried with the pano roof bot open, half closed etc - still noise, sounds like more from the bottom.
Think need to get under the car and see if plastic is sort of loose
Thanks for the valid hints
