Look for Depo headlights as an option - they are complete light unit replacements as cracking open the existing units is (or can be) very tricky.  The earliest ones could be baked open in an oven but BMW changed the glue and made that little trick impossible without extreme care.

Beware of front window tints if you are looking at those.  Was watching a Police prog on TV the other night and there was discussion about front window over-tints resulting in cars becoming uninsured as it was illegal to do that mod and failing to declare the mod to your insurer could of course result in no insurance.  It's also now illegal to sell a car with 'excessive' tints on the front (ahead of the 'B'-pillar) - that was a new one on me too - so don't go mad.

Realoem is a good place to look for part numbers.  If you put the last 7 characters of your VIN into the 'Serial Number' section then your car version will appear and you should find the clips in the Vehicle Trim section I think (you can select 'Picture Drill Down' to make it easier).

Getting mine tinted tomorrow and when I asked about the fronts he said they are pretty much on the limit and anything ontop would take it over >:(

Thanks

Just spoke to my insurance and they said tinting is ok as long as within legal limits and needs to be backed up with a certificate from tinter. Was considering having the fronts done but cannot take the risk and have them wriggle out of a claim  :yikes: if I ever needed to.

Thanks

How much are you paying for your tints?

Post up a pic when they're done!

Cheers

For the 7 pieces behind the b pillar £160 ( should have been £190 but got a discount as referred) in carbon black which is the darkest he dose ( what I call limo black) I am really pleased he was upfront at the start about the black edging but said give it a 7-10 days to really dry out then just run your finger round and it should pretty much disappear. He came to me and was here about an hour and a half really tidy.

Company was called top tints would deffo recommend based in gloucester I think.

Car needs a bit of a clean first but will post up pics in new thread later in the week with my first impressions/questions.

Thanks

Here's a thought on tinting to which I don't have the answer

Having 2 X5s on the drive to look at I see 2 flavours of OE tinting as a base

Mine is like B1GGM's in so much that there is a light tint all round
Image

The wife's has privacy glass where from my eyes the fronts seem (IMO) a smidgen darker and the rears noticeably darker.

Dependant on the base I'd guess the EXTRA tinting you'd get away with is different....how much I don't know.

Mine was like your a bit green all round, I think both are pretty close and so anything aftermarket will tip it over, unless it was totally untinted to start with but I don't think the x5 came untinted in any model

That picture is B1GGM's car I think. I posted it (hope don't mind) as an example of what I thought the standard non-privacy glass looks like. It does have that gentle tint like mine but the fronts on the wife's are ever so slightly darker

For comparison.....my E53 with OEM privacy glass

There's not much difference in the fronts between privacy and non from what I can see.

perhaps not although it feels like there is when inside but perhaps that's an illusion....that's the spitting image of the wife's sterling silver X5

Well if it had a plate that started BH05 and a Vin ending 51 it might be.  The plate is no longer in use (not on any current car now).

I've no idea where mine went to.......

Look here

http://xdrivers.co.uk/forum/https://xdr ... ic.php?t=1

Bottom of 3rd page sun protection glazing (privacy glass)

Darkened glass for all windows except windscreen & front door windows

So they are the same, I am guessing fronts look darker cos interior is darker

I had rear door blinds and rear quarter & screen covers (they're not in the pic) that darkened the rear further.
