Wading

Post by IanP » Sat May 18, 2013 12:59 pm

Just been out in apocalytic rain this morning, and well impressed with the wading capabilties. In water past the fan and still going happily. Still not as good as my old Trooper which managed water up to the level of the windows  O:-)

I wouldn't have had the balls to go through deep water without a snorkel fitted. You only need a cup full of water to be ingested and the engine would be a write off. The trouble is that the water rises higher up the front as you push through making it much more hazardous to the engine.
I thought we had a lot of rain here in Manchester, sounds as though you are having it rough with the wet stuff.

The wading of the 'X' isn't actually that good - something like 20cm - which I always surprising considering how high up the induction trunk - bonnet.

The problem isnt so much the water depth as the inbreeds coming the other way at high speed. Really amusing watching how far the water goes over the bonnet when two cars pass in the flood. Plenty of broken down cars just after the floods  ;)

how does the alternator manage though - which is way lower than the air intake..
