Interior fans stuck on hot

Post by Dean » Tue May 14, 2013 3:06 pm

Hello,

First time poster & hoping someone can help me out. My 07 E70 4.8i has a problem with the heaters. They only blow hot, everything blue on idrive & climate set to 16 but insists on blowing hot. Drivers side seems worse the pax side & I think it's a lazy or faulty motor. Really annoying ESP when bmw updated software which they said should cure it. Does anyone know of a quick fix or check I can do myself before I go back to the dealer?

Thanks,

Dean

I guess you could check  fuse Bose and pull the relevant fuse to stop it, as an interim measure

Assuming you have it in 'Auto' mode? and the green light on the snow symbol switch is on?

Can't think of anything else off the top of my head.  These are the obvious ones which should make it follow the temp commands and that the AC compressor is running - and you'll already have done them I'm sure.  Did they check you had enough gas in the system?

One issue that can certainly affect the ac is not running the compressor as the seals are lubed by the fluid and if allowed to dry out they leak - but any decent dealer would know that.

I ran the one on my E53 all the time and still lost about half the gas in 6 years - which I was told is normal.

It blows cold with the AC on, albeit noticeably colder on passenger side. Problem occurs when using the fans to let air in. Cold day, temp set to 16 & 4 blue bars each side on the climate menu yet vents blow hot air into car? I think the actuator is stuck on hot but bmw said no fault code stored & software update should fix any glitches. Has anyone else had a similar problem?

The upper vent temp control on the E53 didn't carry over - at least not on the later versions - but are you thinking of the thumb wheel with the red & blue dots on it between the two upper vents?

If it did carry over on the earlier versions of the E70, that might be the cause.  Though if memory serves it did that whether the AC was on or off.

Of course if there's no fault code stored then BMW won't have a clue what to look for.

I think it's the actuator controlled the electronic versions off the thumb wheel mentioned. Obviously can manually switch between hot & cold pre idrive, pain in the arse. Prefer the manual control
