SLEEP ...ALARM !!!

Post by Colin » Sat May 11, 2013 9:17 pm

Got a question for yous ,  i thought i would go out and sit in the x5 for 16 minutes  ( WIERD ) to check did the x go to sleep,  which it did ( the wee orange light beside the p went out , and the fan sound went of ) all good i thought ... BUT as i sat motionless during this exercise with doors locked alarm on i thought i would try moving about inside to trigger the alarm when the sleep test was over ,  nothing happened no alarm , so is it not working , switched of , faulty  or what , any suggestions  to what i can check  or do , the indicators flash when i lock it  and the red light on the mirror flashes .. thanks . Colin...

As long as the windows and roof are closed, and you did not press the lock button twice it should work.  I don't know if you can have it permanently disabled by a Dealer, or if one of the ultrasonic parts has gone down or perhaps clogged with dust?

You can check the sounder by opening the bonnet, pressing the alarm trigger button in the engine bay down, locking the car and then releasing the button.  I think the button is at the back left of the engine bay (black push-button sticking up).  The sounder should go off.

If you were sitting in the back it probably wouldn't go off as you could hold a party behind those seats without the ultrasonics picking you up. My rear window was smashed and I could virtually climb in before the alarm sounded.

I often leave my 3yr old in the backseat when I got to pay for petrol and I always lock the car. Without fail the alarm always goes off. It gets to a poor where I tell him he needs to freeze other wise the alarm will go off, and it does, even when all he was doing was "scratching his head".

Push the lock button once to lock, and again to disarm the alarm.  You'll see the red indicator under the rear view mirror come on for a second or two  to show it disarmed.

Just to clarify, that second button press only disarms the interior alarm.  The perimeter is still protected - so no opening doors etc or it will go off.
