Glasgow postcode,
40 year old,
Sp30 - 3 points,
Fully comp with protected no claims (maximum)
Including named driver (wife),
£390,
AXA insurance
[/quote]
Thanks mate. Tried AXA and I got £795. Main differences are no points, no named driver (she doesn't have a UK licence damnit) and London postcode. Oh well.

Re: Typical X5 insurance?
Have just bought a 2013 X5 40d which I pick up on Saturday and looking into insurance. A few observations:
i) Do people bother looking for policies that provide new for old in the 1st year? I looked at Churchill (our current insurer) and they seem to require that you are the 1st registered keeper which we will not be as it is used.
ii) Churchill appear to require a tracker, my neighbour has x5 and warned me of this, do most insurers require tracker on this sort of car?
iii) Options/Modifications, do you find these have a big impact on premium? The car has a lot of options on it and of course I will be declaring them all but it is frustrating that for example confused defines modification as things that you have done post-factory but most insurers define it as including optional extras. In my experience if you read the small print some insurers don't even cover the options despite charging a premium because you have them!

Re: Typical X5 insurance?
Tracking devices will depend upon where you live. Aviva insisted on one, but John Lewis don't. Mods is always a challenge and I have always asked whether they mean factory fitted options on the car at build, or post delivery retrofits. For mine, anything 'factory' was fine and I included the price in the car value.
As you say, some are beginning to blur the line between the two which I think is wrong.
Aviva's covered new for old in year one and it was about £500 I think. I did have BMW GAP insurance as well which will cover the difference between an insurance payout and the original invoice price (up to £25k). Got it with the RFT tyre cover as part of the deal.
