I'm with LV and I'm currently paying £292 a year for my 2006 X5 3.0d Sport with 9yrs NCD (their max).  I've confirmed with them that this also includes the premium for an engine remap.

I've just tried Go Compare and including the remap premium, Admiral, Elephant and Diamond were all under £250.

Being 57 obviously helps........:)

It does as far as insurance is concerned....can't think of any others though  :(.

Out of interest, the quote from LV on my previous car, a 525d, went down when I put my partner on as a named driver so I've kept her on the X5.  I just tried Go Compare again with exactly the same details except this time I put myself as the sole driver and the quote from Admiral went from £241.68 to £306.34!!!!!!  :o

Whilst playing on Go Compare, I took the remap out of the quote and the Admiral premium only dropped by £5.  I'll stay with LV until the renewal is due but it looks like they are going to have to go some to beat Admiral.

Ask for it to be parked in the street and change your profession from say Computer Engineer to Computer Clerk (or close as) - that helps.

Check the policy for what they cover you for (and what's already included) - courtesy car, legal cover and all that, excess, etc. All a minefield and needs serious scrutiny.

Im35 with 1 no fault clam 18 months ago. Was with admiral for last couple of years as multi car policy and reasonably competitive. Just so happens renewal came up same time as changing from x trail to x5 so you ready for this:

Me and SHMBO

X5 (56) with 9 years NCD
Smart 42 passion cab (12) 5 years NCD
Merc SLK300 (10) 8 years

( x trail to x5 = +£300) total =£2500 by direct debit  :upset: :upset: :yikes: :yikes: :yikes:

Went onto compare the market

We are now insured with kwick fit for£1200. So pretty pleased with that.

Oh and beware if you change insurer make sure you tell the old insurer you do not want to renew as most now auto renew. Luckily for me the card I used for admiral last year had expired. First I knew was get an email from admiral saying payment couldn't be processed :yikes: :yikes: :yikes: :yikes:. Best of all when I rang to inform them I had actually changed they wanted to try and charge me £25 cancellation fee :)) :nono:  :chair:

Thanks

Tim

regarding auto-renewal,

You can cancel within  14days  of auto-renewal and pay nothing.

I think its the law (... something to do with cooling off...)

so Its probably better to allow auto renewal so you don't end up without cover just in case you forget to do price comparisons prior to renewal ...
