Typical X5 insurance?
Typical X5 insurance?
Hi everyone
As a near 40-year old (thankfully not Virgin) male with max no claims and no colourful driving history, should I expect to have to pay at least a grand as a ballpark figure for fully comp insurance on a nearly new X5 xdrive40d M-sport?
Cheers
Ben

Re: Typical X5 insurance?
Depends on so many factors that it could well be the figure you end up at. I've had quotes from over £2,500 down to as little as £130 fully comp on the comparison sites. Those at the extremes tend to be companies I've never heard of and so regard with scepticism.

Never anthropomorphise computers. They hate that.

A few tips for folks with older X5s that maybe don't really require fully comp.
rather than going TPFT take fully comp with the maximum excess. You only pay the excess if claiming for damage that you have caused to your own car. You get windscreen cover. And generally you pay a few hundred less.

I pay £650 through axa for a fairly high risk part of east London, parking on the drive, and I'm just over 40 years old.
Pretty good value I think.
I use price comparison sites and Quidco to get the best value.

I've paid £625 but I think I could have got it for a few hundred less, the problem is that I had to do it on a joint car policy with another car so I could use its ncb.
Next year I'll shop around as I will have sold one of my cars and released it's no claims so i'll be able to get the X5 insured on it's own.

Wow. Thanks guys. I'll have another look around as I only called one place so far ( Chris Knott) and they quoted me £1145 but said I should come back to them at the end of my search as they often price match.

Far too many variables but at roughly the same age as you (but I am actually still a virgin ) paid c£660 for my last period of ownership-c£100 more than the mrs paid for her car which at the time was worth c

This price match crap really pee's me off, if they can match a lower quote then they are not giving you the best deal up front and don't deserve your business.

Fair point mate.
Re: Typical X5 insurance?
Insurance varies so much depending on the car, I had quotes of as much as £1500 for the X5, all insurance companies seem to favour certain cars and heavily load others so it's really worth phoning around.

Absolutely right. Just did some comparing online and managed to get it down from the first quote of £1145 to around £640, for very similar insurance specs and excesses. Although the variance is mind boggling. No idea how they pluck these numbers out of the air, you'd think there would be some consistency.
