Key Covers

Post by X5Sport » Mon Nov 15, 2010 6:32 pm

For those of us who have the Start/Stop button type of starting system as against the good old 'Twist to Start' key, you may be interested to know that you can get a key cover which will protect your keys from damage. Those of us who have, or have had the older 'twist to start' BMWs may remember or have the black leather key covers.

If you want the same cover for your new type key, they are also available. The BMW part number is 51 21 0 414 778, known as a 'Key Sheath'. If any one is puzzled I'll put a piccie up too. I found the parts on Real OEM and asked my dealer if they were available, et voila. Would have put this in the 'How to' section if we had one.

I will put a 'How to' fit the adjustable luggage rails to the E71 once the parts arrive. Not sure if the E70 has a similar system, but it may be of use? The E71 has no luggage tie downs in the boot - something I actually need and use. I have the parts on order and will fit them as soon as they arrive from Germany.

Very similar, just leather instead of Nylon and no BMW logo'd pin. I'll have to reboot the PC 2moro and look up the price for you. I'll also put a piccy up of both the old and new covers that BMW made for the different key types.

Very similar, but I paid £19-90 for a pair from the Dealer.

New and old style key covers - the new version has 'BMW' embossed on the cover's spine.

NOTE - the BMW keyring is not included, but was a Freebie with the car.
