Fuel Economy on 40d
Fuel Economy on 40d
Being a tad early for a meeting took a relaxing motorway drive:
Pretty pleased with 37mpg. Overall though, still averaging 28.5

Re: Fuel Economy on 40d
Thats very good indeed!
Re: Fuel Economy on 40d
On a recent trip back to the NW from Herts, driving at 70-72ish (rarely below unless enforced by traffic conditions), I achieved 38.1 according to the computer. 2 adults, 2 kids and a pretty full boot.
Was very pleased.

Re: Fuel Economy on 40d
Return trip to swansea with the family on the weekend. Good cruising speed and 27 mpg from wifey's X5 40d. Was pleased with this (she would have got more if in the drivers seat I think though!)
I'm averaging 23 in the 50d which is great as its loosened up now and is really fun to drive.

There really good figures given the weight of the cars.
People on Astra owners with 1.8 petrol engines are only getting max 31-32 or 40 mpg on a long run
Would rather have a x5 4.0d

Hello Snipez,
Great car and engine you got.
May I ask you how many km you have done now you start feeling its loosing up
My 30D have currently done +4K, but so far I have not been able to notice any changes since I got it
Cheers

That is a cracking result, the 40d delivers performance & economy & you can't argue with that.

I know someone that sold a 1.8i astra because it was so bad on mpg, I can see them sort of figures in the m3 on an easy run, well 33-34

I miss my Z4M for that its a cracking powerplant that 3.2 aswell...the V8 in my M3 is hopeless on fuel, I can see why they will be going back to six cylinders for the next M3/M4.

tbh where I am its very hilly and its still in that new fun stage and been driven keenly yet im averaging 24.8 on the obc, the 318ci is only averaging 28 on the same roads, the m3 seens to be everything, fast, economical (30+ is good im thinking) and ooow that noise, ive not driven a v8 m3 yet but I will, im just so glad now I got the m3 over the 335i

You made a great choice Shadrack going for the M3 & I agree the noise is inspiring, if you had gone 335i I bet you would have always thought I wonder what the M3 is like, the E46 M3 is so highly regarded by everyone & for very good reason, enjoy.

7400 miles is around 12000km, meaning 3 times mine.
So, did it just start loosing up now?.
Guess I then have to be patient for some months still

Re: Fuel Economy on 40d
I'm getting 29.1mpg combined on my 40d, but its brand new so I guess it will improve as the engine gets worn in...
