Alloy colour change : Paint or Powdercoat? Any recommended refurb shops?

Post by MarkyX6 » Wed May 01, 2013 9:52 pm

I have got a set of alloys that I fancy turning black. I have seen some threads elsewhere that say the heating process for Powder Coating weakens the casting.

Has anyone had any experience of this?

Also, would appreciate any recommended places in or near Hertfordshire that you may have used and had good results.

Thanks

Mark

I've had rims powder coated and know plenty who have had them done too and they are fine.

I've had several sets of wheels powder coated and never had an issue.

Thanks.

It may well be too much black. Might see what they can do in terms of finishes to take the edge off, assuming I can find somewhere up to the job.

What about the BMW Anthacite colour?  Or Dark Silver (Ferric Grey?) and a standard option now too.  Google BMW Anthracite and there's lots of piccies.

Agreed. Ferric Grey as per the OEM finish may work better. Which wheel style do you have on the X6?

I agree with others, I think the grey will lokk nicer. Mine is black with black kidneys, so thinking of having the wheels powder coated in ferric grey. Whats the going rate for this anyone know? And dioes anyone know of anyone round the cardiff/newport way?

Mine is fully black- grills and wheels- same colour as yours too.  To break it up I've had the outer edge of the wheel done in red.

Probably not everyones cup of tea but I think it looks great and that is all that matters! :))

Will try and put some pics up...

In would say a rim of something if you insist on black. Walked past a black Porsche today with black wheels and silver rim. Looked ok.
