Did this last Sunday , air filter, vortex oil breather, cleaned egr , blew out the washer mesh filters. Only one bolt was difficult, the one behind the air filter housing.

Oil and filter much easier.

Changed the air, pollen and breather on the E46 last night.  It already had a vortex on it but as it had been there for nearly 7 years (and I'd bought one anyway) I changed it.

I found the only way I could get the rear corner cover bolt back in was to do that one first so I could jiggle things to make it easier.

Now just the oil to do.....

Dealers are apparently now using Castrol 0w-30 EDGE Professional (ACEA C3/BMW LL04), which has just appeared on the open market from a few suppliers and is kinda pricey!!  Especially when I need about 7 litres.  If you are looking to buy some beware there is a Volvo only version which isn't suitable as it's a special recipe for their engines.  It doesn't meet the ACEA 'C' specs as it's an A&B only
