I was pleasantly surprised when I got mine £360 from RAC of all people and an acknowledgement that it had two sets of wheels the 19" and 21".  Aged 48 10yrs NCB SDP.  It was only £60 dearer than my Passat CC.

But it did take a bit of ringing around as lots of them didn't know how to deal with two sets of wheels - with winter wheels becoming more prevalent now, wouldn't have thought that it would be that difficult.

One thing I would say is beware not declaring all modifications/options.
Insurance companies now ASK any modifications / options.

I got lots of good quotes below £450 for a 40d SE................but the moment you declare the options they don't want to know. I have £11,600 of options and all bar one company told me NO Interest.
The only quote I got was £1100 with a compulsory excess of £700.

Its all changed, & seriously by options I mean they want to know if you have  ANYTHING  other than standard............i.e heated seats/shaded windscreen/cameras/media package/dynamic package/20" alloys/etc etc .............the lot.

How many of you have actually declared everything ?
Exactly.....................be carefull. My current insurer said " we wouldn't have covered you if we had known " when I told them my current car was almost identical to the new one.

Anyway im 49 and 15 years + ncd............+ my good lady wife SDP.

The bmw valuation just says £75,000..............more than covered.
I've clearly paid a bit more but I sleep well knowing I am fully covered and no grey areas.

Regards,

Nat.

Weird isnt it I would think a high number of cars have had factory options fitted but never declared them, I wouldnt have thought to as dont think they are modifications....but sure an insurance co would think otherwise in the event of a claim.....must dig out my policy wording...

I'm with elephant and the quote on my e53 rocketed after I told them about the factory fitted options. It's a new way of making money for them. They'll do anything not to payout.

The thing to watch out for in my experience is the small print..... I found that some insurers want to know about all the "modifications" (which they used to call extras/options) but then the real kick in the nuts was that they wouldn't actually cover them if the car was stolen !  Worth checking.

I also think if a car is new you should check the position in the small print, I cancelled with one insurer for another because the other offered new for old in the first year.
