If you search back through the past forum posts there are several how to's, its not easy to get your head around.
I bought a cheap lap top off EBay. To use with my scanner as it runs on XP
Don't despair as a few have it running on Win 7
It's a bad day to post that question today as the midlands meet is on. Some one will be able to sort you tomorrow.
I'm sure, but trawl the past posts to give you a head start.

For a start, right click on my computer and select "Properties" then select device manager on the left hand side.
Scroll down to USB devices and you should see "BMW Scanner with a little yellow triangle next to it with a ! in it.
Right click on this and select "update driver"
Select "Browse my computer for driver software.
Click on "Browse"
Select local disc.
Scroll through till you find the folder BMWScan140\drivers.
Click on this and then on the next window that pops up click next.

This should then install the required drivers for you.

Once the drivers have installed then go to your desktop.
Right click on the BMW scanner icon.
Select properties.
Click on the compatibility tab at the top.
Click on the little boxes next to "Run this program in compatibility mode" and "Run this program as an administrator"
Click "apply"
and from here on in you should be up and running.

I did this last week.
Check on google for the windows 7 driver, I think it linked to a thread on this forum, download it, then plug in your scanner with the USB and it should find the software when you choose update driver.
One thing to remember is the scanner will not show on your laptop when you start the scanner application until it is connected to your OBC port and the ignition is turned to one, it will show as hardware fault if not connected.

C11, it usually only says hardware fault if it isnt connected to the car, the easiest way i have found is to connect the scanner to the car, connect the wire from the scanner to the laptop and then openthe software on the computer.
