Nice choice to have. The E60 will certainly feel fresher but the E53 does have a something about it for sure.

540i came with a 4.0 V8, 545i with 4.4 V8 and 550i with 4.8 V8.

Welcome matey, I too wasn't looking for an X5 but an E60 535d, but saw mine and drove it and instantly decided the X5 was the better choice, especially as I have 3 kids and a 6.5st american bulldog.

I would have gone for the 535 :-)
